Men, Look Younger Longer Without Surgery

Men, Look Younger Longer Without Surgery

Women discovered the game-changing effects of non-surgical facial rejuvenation over two decades ago, and men have been slowly but surely getting on board, too. Whether it’s to give them an edge in a corporate market that emphasizes youth and vitality, or just to feel better about themselves as they age, men are seeking the subtle but undeniable improvements that come with non-surgical procedures like BOTOX, facial fillers and more.

While they might have shied away from these procedures in the past for fear of looking less masculine, my male patients are quickly reassured during their initial consultation that I take a different approach to male facial rejuvenation. That’s what I’d like to talk about today.

Getting Masculine Results with BOTOX and Facial Fillers

Using injectables on men isn’t the same as using them on women. The time-tested definitions of attractiveness for men are different, and if that simple fact is ignored, you risk a poor result. For example, when using hyaluronic-acid-based injectable facial fillers, like Juvederm, women benefit from more volume in the cheek and lip area. However, for men, overfilling these areas can lead to a “puffy” appearance (sometimes referred to as “chipmunk cheeks”) and feminized features.

On top of that, there are a number of other considerations for knowing how much filler to inject and where, including age, skin thickness, and nuances of facial muscles, nerves and blood vessels (to avoid damage), not to mention each patient’s unique facial traits. These differ between men and women, and, in this business, fractions of millimeters matter. This is why I personally perform all of my filler injections, using my knowledge as a plastic surgeon and what I call “beauty math” based on the golden ratio and quantifiable factors that we use to define attractiveness. There’s no “cookie cutter” approach when I use injectables. And my male patients certainly don’t need to worry about “chipmunk cheeks” when they’re under my care.

In addition to fillers, BOTOX is also an easy win for men. Injecting BOTOX between the eyes relaxes the muscles that can create vertical lines and an angry or unapproachable look. BOTOX also works well on crow’s feet and forehead lines. The procedure is quick, safe (when performed by a qualified professional), and you can return to work right away.

If you are thinking about getting BOTOX or fillers at a spa, a word of warning—learning how to inject these products isn’t the hard part. Injecting them well, in a way that enhances the patient’s features (especially male features) is. And the danger of coming out with unnatural-looking or effeminate results is very real. BOTOX lasts months and Juvederm, a year or more. My advice: as a patient, you’ll want to make sure the person injecting these products into your face has the skill, experience, knowledge, and track record to do the job right.

If you want to look younger longer without surgery, another step is to take care of your skin at home. Some men don’t want to commit to a long, complicated skincare routine or spend money on numerous products. I understand that, which is why we offer straight forward skin care regimens, available at my office, using physician-strength products that will make a profound difference in the health, strength, and elasticity of your skin. Because these products are stronger than anything you can get at a department store, they work without a lot of effort on your part. Use them twice a day, in combination with the non-surgical facial rejuvenation we do in the office, and you won’t regret it.

If you’re not sure what you might need to achieve the results you’re looking for, I encourage you to come in for a no-pressure consultation. My emphasis is always on natural-looking results, for both men and women. If you are interested in learning more about surgical procedures for men, you can read more about those here.
