How Many Celebrities Stay Looking Youthful

Some celebrities are having major plastic surgery to stay youthful looking…A Lot Aren’t.

If you ask Google how celebrities stay looking so young, you’ll get loads of articles on how they drink plenty of water, stay out of the sun, and use lots of SPF. I’m sure that’s somewhat accurate, but I can say with a great deal of certainty— there’s more.

Non-surgical options such as BOTOX, dermal fillers, laser resurfacing and broadband light (to name a few) are often paired with robust skincare routines which can literally transform both female and male celebrities, incrementally, over time, seemingly turning back the clock right before our eyes.

Here’s how it works.

BOTOX® is great to get rid of those stubborn frown lines (the dreaded 11’s”) between the eyebrows that make you look perpetually angry. Officially called glabellar frown lines, these deep wrinkles are caused by repetitive muscle movements.  The botulinum A toxin in BOTOX® blocks the signals from nerves to muscles, which in turn will decrease the strength of the muscle, leading to a softened appearance to wrinkles. BOTOX is also great for crow’s feet around the eyes and lines on the forehead. Celebrities who have openly spoken about using BOTOX include model Cindy Crawford, former Miss America Vanessa Williams, and talk show host Kelly Ripa.

BOTOX injections generally last three to six months. Here’s the catch: BOTOX has to be done “right” to look “right.” BOTOX injections that are not properly done can result in a face that looks obviously “worked on” or can hinder natural facial expressions…or worse.  That’s why, in my practice, I do not rely on nurse injectors or P.A.’s to perform BOTOX and filler injections.  I do 100% of them myself.  Experience and training counts—and after 15,000+ “injectable” procedures, I am confident that in my hands, truly amazing results for both male and female patients are always the norm.   While several of my patients come from other states or countries for BOTOX and filler—you can have your treatments done close to home, just make sure to choose an experienced, skilled, board-certified plastic surgeon to help ensure the best results.

Facial fillers have been one of Hollywood’s best-kept secret for quite sometime now.  “Facial filler” is a term generally used to describe injections of various perpetrations of hyaluronic acid, a substance produced naturally in the body. Facial or “dermal” fillers are injected into specific areas of the face to replace lost volume or can be used to fill in facial folds, furrows, and wrinkles that have become more pronounced.  Those who know my philosophy and approach to aesthetic medicine know that my goal is always to achieve the most natural looking results possible; thus, I am continually adopting newer, better and more effective techniques with regard to facial fillers.  I prefer Juvederm Vollure and Juvederm Voluma for most of my patients as these “HLA gel” fillers provide a smooth, natural looking— and feeling result, helping decrease wrinkles and plump up areas of the face that have lost volume over time.

For lip enhancement, I use Juvederm Volbella XC, as I feel it gives the most natural results. Again, it’s so important that facial fillers are administered by a board-certified plastic surgeon who has the necessary experience to truly know what they are doing. These gel fillers stay under your skin for several months and up to two years in some cases, (until they are harmlessly absorbed by your body) thus you don’t want to let “just any doctor” inject dermal fillers into your face.

Which celebrities use facial fillers? They’re not telling, and neither will I, but as a plastic surgeon who has treated many high-profile women and men, I can tell you that I can recognize the subtle effects, especially in those over age 35. And when done correctly, it looks great on them.

Laser and Light therapies. Wonder how celebrities in their later years can still have smooth, seemingly unblemished skin— even in paparazzi photos? That’s likely due to treatments such as laser skin resurfacing and broadband light therapy (BBL).

Laser treatments can help address fine lines and wrinkles, scars, brown spots, enlarged pores, birthmarks, sun damage, and more, plus the heat (energy) generated by the laser encourages collagen production. Actresses Chelsea Handler and Christie Brinkley are openly fans of laser treatments.

BBL is an extremely safe therapy, and because I’ve had several treatments myself, I can speak personally to the fantastic results BBL can achieve. BBL isn’t a laser treatment– lasers use a specific, focused wavelength of light while BBL is an intense pulsed light treatment consisting of short bursts of many different wavelengths of light which absorb red and brown pigments in the skin. BBL is effective at treating melasma (dark patches), age spots, freckles, vascular lesions, rosacea, redness, and broken capillaries. I use the Forever Young BBL platform from Sciton, and the name says it all. BBL treatments also boost collagen production in a similar manner that some lasers do. Three to six treatments spaced three to four weeks apart is generally all it takes to achieve desired results, and then a treatment or two per year thereafter can help maintain them. Actress Denise Richards seems to agree– she was even photographed having a form of intense pulsed light treatment.

In addition to BBL, I offer several laser-based therapies in my practice using the Sciton Joule Platform, including deep skin resurfacing, for those who want to turn back the clock, in a dramatic and effective manner.  Other options I offer certain patients include deep chemical peels, microneedling, and an injectable treatment called Kybella to address unwanted/excess fat under the chin.

Most celebrities maintain an excellent skin care regime at home and on the road, but I can assure you that most, if not all 40+-year-old starlets are not getting their skincare products at the local drug store.  Medical grade skincare can play a significant role in how well we age on the outside.  Using the correct products or even custom formulations like D.O.S.E. from Skinceuticals which we offer at our office— can make a very significant difference in how you look and feel at any age.  Contact our office to learn more about the treatments and technologies discussed above, you’ll be glad you did.
