Massive Weight Loss

With the advent of the hCG diet, I am seeing more and more patients who have lost a great deal of weight. The cruel reality is that after being disciplined enough to lose all that weight, these patients are left with a lot of extra skin that does not respond to exercise or further dieting. That is where plastic surgery comes in. By removing extra skin from the face, arms, breasts, abdomen, and/or hips, I can rejuvenate these patients into what they wanted to look like when they started the diet.

HCG is a hormone that is elevated during early pregnancy. This diet aid has been around for decades, but it did not gain popularity in the past because it was only available as an injectable. Now it is available in drops that are put under the tongue twice a day.

The program includes a very low calorie diet, but surprisingly, patients do not complain of hunger. Reportedly, the diet results in somewhat of a re-programming of the hypothalamus in the brain and alters a person’s weight set-point.

Lest you think I have decided to leave plastic surgery and become a weight loss guru, never fear. I will leave that to the specialists and stick to my own specialty. I am just excited at the number of lives I have seen change with the combination of this diet and plastic surgery. I really enjoy this type of work because it has such a positive and profound impact on the patients I see.

If you or someone you know has lost a lot of weight and are nearing their goal weight, it may be time to consider a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. Skin reduction surgery after massive weight loss is like the icing on the cake, and it is well-deserved after a wonderful accomplishment.
