Ditch That Double Chin

The dreaded double chin. Do you know it?

If so, I want you to know you don’t necessarily need surgery to get rid of it. Let’s talk about Kybella.

Kybella gets rid of unwanted fat under the chin

The clinical name for double chin is “submental fullness.” This accumulation of fat in the under chin area can happen to both men and women. It may be related to weight gain, genetics, or aging. Submental fullness can make you look older or heavier than you are, and even if you eat right and exercise, it can linger.

How does Kybella work?

Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable medication that destroys fat deposits under the chin. Its active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, a laboratory-created version of a naturally-occuring acid in the digestive system that breaks down dietary fat (it’s basically synthetic stomach acid). When injected into the fat cells beneath the chin, Kybella literally eats away at the fat stores located there.

The way fat cells work is they empty and fill depending on lipid availability in the body. Kybella destroys fat cells completely, so there is no chance of them refilling later on. That means that once we get you to your desired look, the fat won’t come back as long as you maintain a steady weight. As far as the destroyed fat cells and deoxycholic acid, they are both safely processed by your body and excreted as waste.

Kybella results

I’ll do multiple injections during a single treatment, and the entire process only takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections you’ll receive depends on how much submental fullness you have and your desired aesthetic. There is art as well as science involved, and I use beauty math and timeless beauty traits to make you look like yourself, just more sculpted. Expect to see visible results by a month after your first treatment. Kybella works, and the results speak for themselves with very little risk.

Kybella or Surgery?

Kybella is an injectable treatment which is safer and less invasive than surgery with an impressive “wow” factor. It is amazing the monumental change submental fat removal makes to a person’s profile and jawline.

But not everyone is a candidate for Kybella. This treatment works best for people with low to moderate amounts of chin fat and good skin tone in the neck and jawline. If you have a large amount of submental fullness and/or loose neck skin, I will recommend a facelift or neck lift for optimal results.

Things to know about your Kybella treatment

I’m happy to meet with you and assess whether or not you are a good candidate for Kybella. Also, here are a few more things you may want to know about the procedure. We can discuss any of them further during your consultation.

You are going to swell. When the acid starts doing its work on your fat cells, your body’s response is to create inflammation. This isn’t harmful, but it will obscure your results and can be uncomfortable. Swelling can last from a couple of days to three weeks after treatment.

It may hurt. Subsequent treatments may hurt more than the first one. I can offer nitrous oxide to make the treatments more comfortable. Don’t hesitate to ask.

Men, Kybella works even better on you! Because men have thicker skin that responds well to the treatment, their results tend to be particularly impressive. My male patients have had their profiles and jawlines completely transformed by Kybella.

It’s forever. Remember, because Kybella physically destroys fat-storing cells, once the chin fat is gone, it stays gone, even if you have a genetic propensity to it. One caveat: if you gain a significant amount of weight it can change your results. But generally speaking, once we sculpt your chin and jawline, you can enjoy your new profile for the foreseeable future.
