Fat’s Where It’s At For Topical Skin Nourishment and Repair

SkinCeuticals TriLipidWe all spend a lot of time trying to rid our bodies of unwanted fat, so it may seem odd that adding fat to your skin is a benefit, but it is. As we age, we lose lipids in our skin. These fats (cholesterol, ceramides, and fatty acids) are the primary components of cell walls, and loss of these vital lipids results in impaired barrier function and reduced moisture levels, leading to roughness, dullness, and tightness in the skin.

How SkinCeuticals Can help

SkinCeuticals® has recently developed Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2. This ratio of ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids is optimal to address lipid depletion in aged skin. Triple Lipid Restore showed a 39% increase in skin hydration even twenty four hours after application. Also, natural repair cells were doubled in abundance in the skin after eight weeks of use. Statistically improved differences were noted in skin clarity, tone, brightness, smoothness, and laxity in patients that used this product for eight weeks.

Unfortunately, in a lab analysis of the ingredients in other leading lipid containing skin care products, most had nearly undetectable concentrations of these necessary fats. This is undoubtedly related to the significant expense in providing ceramides in their pure form. Therefore, beware of over-the-counter products that claim to contain ceramides.

While I wouldn’t recommend increasing your dietary intake of fats based on this exciting new product, I would definitely recommend adding fat to your skin care regimen.
