When the gym and your diet are not leading to the flat, firm abdomen you desire, it may be time for a consultation with Dr. Flint. The climate in Scottsdale makes it such that feeling confident in a bathing suit is important. After child bearing, the abdominal wall has been stretched. The same thing happens after a large weight loss. Unfortunately diet and exercise don't result in the underlying connective tissue snapping back into shape. The stretched out tissue has to be tightened surgically and the excess skin has to be removed. The results are dramatic and permanent.
It can be difficult for patients to know if they are better candidates for liposuction or a tummy tuck. Liposuction decreases the thickness of any rolls you can pinch on your abdomen, but does not remove excess skin. A tummy tuck removes lax skin and stretch marks on the lower abdomen and tightens the abdominal wall, removing the protuberance called a "mommy pillow" that results on the lower abdomen following child bearing. Mini-tummy tucks result in a shorter scar and only remove a small amount of skin on the lower abdomen for patients who have no lax skin or excess fat above their belly buttons.
Removal of excess skin and fat from the abdominal wall and tightening the contour through an incision low on the abdomen that runs hip bone to hip bone.
Tummy tucks are designed to improve the overall shape of the abdomen. Excess fat and skin are removed and the underlying muscles are tightened resulting in a flat abdomen. This procedure is often combined with liposuction of other areas.
Dr. Flint will meet with you to determine what your goals are. She will examine you and discuss the procedure at length. All of your questions will be answered. You will be allowed to review some of Dr. Flint's work via pre and post-operative photos. You will be provided with information regarding fees and given an opportunity to select a date for your surgery if you so desire.
The procedure takes between ninety minutes and two hours depending on the size of the patient. A general anesthesia is given. The patient is kept over one night in the recovery care center and allowed to return home the morning following surgery. Discomfort is controlled with muscle relaxants and pain pills. Drainage tubes are in place for approximately five days and are removed in the office. You will be allowed to shower two days after the drainage tubes are removed. No lifting is allowed for six weeks. Most people return to work after two weeks. Swelling may persist for four to eight weeks. The results are very dramatic, permanent and satisfying.
To ensure an informed and healthy decision making process we advise all tummy tuck patients to first schedule a consultation with Scottsdale cosmetic surgeon Dr. Patt Flint.
