Scottsdale Liposuction

Liposuction is the second most common cosmetic surgery procedure performed in the United States. It is not too surprising that that is the case because liposuction is the only way to rid your body of unsightly fatty deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. If you're considering liposuction, Scottsdale surgeon Dr. Patti Flint can help.

Liposuction is not a weight loss tool. For safety reasons it should not be used in Scottsdale liposuction patients that are significantly overweight, or to remove exceptionally large volumes of fat. While there are many types of liposuction currently being performed, many involve heating the fat with laser or ultrasound waves. Dr. Flint feels this may damage stem cells and prefers to remove the fat with non-heated tubes.

There are many myths about liposuction, the most common being that if you gain weight following the procedure, the fat will deposit in odd areas. Each patient is genetically pre-programmed to deposit fat in their problem areas. If you have a large weight gain following the procedure you will tend to re-deposit the excess fat in the same problematic areas. Small weight swings do not damage the result.

During the Procedure

Dr. Flint uses board certified anesthesiologists to induce a general anesthesia. This allows her to move you into the most favorable position during the procedure while your airway remains protected. The procedure takes between ninety minutes and three hours depending on how many areas are treated. Liposuction can provide dramatic improvements in areas of your body that are not responsive to diet and exercise.

Before Liposuction Surgery

Dr. Flint will meet with you to determine which areas of your body would benefit from liposuction, and she will describe the super-wet liposuction technique that she prefers. She will listen to your goals and examine you. She will answer any questions you may have. If you so desire, you will be provided with information regarding fees and given an opportunity to select a date for your Scottsdale liposuction.

Scottsdale Liposuction: Recovery

When you awaken in the recovery room, you will be wearing a light compression garment on the areas that were liposuctioned. This helps decrease bruising and swelling. You will be allowed to return home approximately two hours following the procedure. You will be sore for about one week but the discomfort is fairly mild. Bruising can persist for up to three weeks with liposuction. Scottsdale plastic surgeon Dr. Flint will see you in the office at one week, one month and four months post-operatively. Most people return to work one week after surgery. No lifting or athletic activities are allowed for three weeks because it can cause excessive swelling and bruising. The results will be obvious within two weeks of surgery, but the final results will be evident in three to four months.
