Rhinoplasty in Scottsdale - Mesa Arizona
Rhinoplasty Article
Patti Flint MD
Rhinoplasty is a procedure that Dr. Flint thoroughly enjoys. Her practice philosophy has always included a commitment to natural results, and she feels particularly strongly about that regarding rhinoplasty. A scooped out appearance or an excessively sculptured tip is not aesthetically pleasing in Dr. Flint’s opinion. However, many patients have noses that do not compliment their faces. Bringing the proportions of the nose into alignment with other facial features can make a beautiful difference in appearance without making the patient look like a different person.
Dr. Flint has been performing rhinoplasty for over twelve years. Her practice performs three times the average number of rhinoplasty cases per year reported by members of the American Society of Aesthetic plastic surgeons. While revision rates for rhinoplasty are frequently quoted as being as high as 20%, Dr. Flint has revised less than 5% of the rhinoplasty’s she has performed.
Dr. Flint encourages patients to bring in pictures of themselves to assist in discussing what it is about their nose they dislike. She also requests photos of noses the patient likes. During consultation, she will explain what is possible and what should be avoided. Many photos of other patient’s pre- and post-operative appearance will be shared and discussed.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and generally can be completed in less than two hours. The recovery is very well tolerated. Dr. Flint does not pack the nose of her patients and subsequently less post-operative discomfort exists. Stitches in the under surface of the nose are removed in five to seven days. A small splint is worn on the surface of the nose for ten days. Bruising has usually resolved in seven to ten days. Lifting and exercise are prohibited for three weeks to avoid bleeding. When the splint is removed, immediate improvements are noted, however the final result takes approximately one year to show.
Risks of this procedure are low. Numbness of the tip of the nose may occur, but is usually temporary. Bleeding and infection occur in less than one percent of cases. The small scar between the nostrils is difficult to perceive in the vast majority of patients.
Patient satisfaction with the results of this procedure is generally excellent. Dr. Flint would be happy to meet with you in consultation to discuss possible improvements in your appearance. Please contact her staff at 480-945-3300 with any questions, or to arrange an appointment.
