Patients commonly ask when they should pursue facial rejuvenation surgery. The answer is that these types of procedures should be considered when aging issues start to show on the face. There is no specific chronologic age at which that happens, as each individual ages at a different pace and in a different way.
Dr. Flint examines each patient who is considering facial surgery and designs a surgical plan that will accomplish the goals of the patient. She prefers a three prong approach that includes skin care, cosmetic fillers and surgery to provide the best results. She is fully committed to providing a natural appearance and never wants any patient to appear stretched or tight following a procedure.
There are many different types of facelifts, and many are marketed very effectively. They promise short scars, short procedure times and short recoveries. Dr. Flint feels many of these procedures provide short term results as well. If there is lax skin in the jowl and neckline to a significant degree, "mini-facelifts" just don't provide lengthy results. You are much better off having a formal facelift in Scottsdale that has a two to three week recovery, but which provides a ten year result.
Dr. Flint uses board certified anesthesiologists to provide safe general anesthesia. While some patients have anxiety about anesthesia, twilight sleep is not as safe for this procedure in Dr. Flint's opinion. The procedure lasts about three hours. If ancillary procedures such as browlifts and eyelid lifts are performed at the same time, the procedure may take up to five hours. Discomfort is described as mild by most patients. There will be swelling and bruising which last one to two weeks. Facelift procedures produce beautiful improvements in many patients and are one of Dr. Flint's specialties.
Dr. Flint will meet with you in consultation for your facelift at her Scottsdale or Mesa office and discuss the procedure she feels will suit your goals. She will recommend a skin care program to prepare your skin. You will be asked to obtain pre-op blood work and possibly an EKG and chest x-ray. You will need someone to drive you to and from the surgicenter. One overnight stay in the surgicenter's recovery care floor is required for a facelift. Scottsdale surgeon Dr. Flint will visit you in the recovery care center the morning after your surgery to remove your bandages and arrange your discharge.
Following your facelift surgery Dr. Flint will see you at approximately one week, three weeks, six weeks and three, six and twelve months post-operatively. Special follow-up schedules are arranged for patients who are in from out of town for their surgeries. Most importantly she will see you at anytime if you have a concern.
The face is a complex part of the human anatomy and requires the professional eye of a skilled and board certified plastic surgeon. To take the next step toward a successful facelift, Scottsdale surgeon Dr. Flint can provide a consultation at her Mesa or Scottsdale office locations.
