Brachioplasty in Scottsdale - Mesa Arizona

Excess, saggy upper arm skin and fat can appear unsightly and limit clothing choices for many women. Unfortunately, this area rarely responds to exercise as the majority of the problem is the result of excess skin with poor elasticity. This problem can be genetic or result from massive weight loss. Liposuction alone may benefit a few patients with good skin, primarily who are in their twenties. For the rest of my patients, a combination of liposuction and arm lifting, called brachioplasty is the best option.

There are different types of brachioplasty that can be performed depending on the degree and location of excess skin and the amount of excess fat that exists. Some brachioplasty techniques can utilize an armpit only scar. For more extreme cases, the scar crosses the armpit and extends the length of the upper inner arm. For those with large amounts of skin excess, the scar at times is a secondary concern.

The procedure is performed as an out-patient procedure under general anesthesia and generally takes less than two hours to perform. Patients are discharged home within two hours of completing the procedure. Discomfort is mild and resolves within two to three weeks. Lifting and activities requiring lifting the arms above shoulder level are prohibited for three weeks. Satisfaction ratings among patients are high and complications such as bleeding or infection are quite uncommon.
